McCloskey on his St. Louis lawn with his AR-15 Mr. McCloskey and his wife came out on his lawn with guns to chase away a 200-person mob who had destroyed a gate on his gated neighborhood in St. Louis. He was in bare feet, has one magazine, and was outside of his house. He needed to be inside of it for legal reasons. He is a lawyer. He and his wife are now under indictment for brandishing a firearm. 911 voice mail Anyway, that and the refusal of police to respond to 911 calls in a number of cities persuaded...

Trump and Biden are not even talking about the big problems: explosions in entitlement spending and dollar ‘printing’

Posted by John T. Reed on

There is a national trend that transcends the campaign chatter. Entitlements are exploding out of control, dollar “printing” is out of control, making cities safe for criminals is out of control, illegal immigration is out of control, education at all levels has been turned into Marxist indoctrination, black-white race relations are rocketing into the toilet led by a race hustling Dem party and Marxist organizations like BLM, etc. Nether party is doing anything about these major trends. What power do AOC and Bernie have over Biden after the election? None. He...

The biggest is a 48" wide Samsung curved-screen, high-definition TV. It is connected to the 27" diagonal iMac on the right so that I can move things from one screen to the other and the cursor moves from one computer to the other. . The computer on the left is an ancient Apple Cinema screen....

The diminishing importance of brick-and-mortar

Posted by John T. Reed on

Interesting column by Greg Ip in today's WSJ. "Virus Hastens Shift to Asset-Light Economy." It us about businesses like Carvana and Vroom which have no traditional brick-and-mortar high-visibility stores. . I have been writing for decades about what I call dispersion. That is the ability of businesses to move to cheaper locations like the suburbs or exurbs or the middle of nowhere. . The event that triggered that to me was Citicorp moving their credit card operations our of NYC to SD. That was enabled by satellite communications which and toll-free phone service which made SD equal to NYC in...
