In Back Bay Boston beware of earthquakes and low water table

Posted by John T. Reed on

There is a big scary article in today’s Wall Street Journal, and it never mentions what I thought was the biggest risk in Boston housing..We lived in Boston for three years while my wife and I attended and graduated from Harvard Business School. One of everyone’s favorite neighborhoods there is called the Back Bay..When I graduated from Harvard, I moved to San Francisco. I read six books on earthquakes and selected the three different places we lived in CA based on those books..When you read American books on earthquakes, you read not only about San Francisco, but about all the...

How is it Republicans’ fault that the Democrats ran off all the female and black candidates?

Posted by John T. Reed on

Somehow, the Democrat primary started with a bunch of women, a gay guy, some blacks, and forced all of them to withdraw leaving two white men in their late 70s and it is our fault for being sexists and racists. . According to the most recent Survey of Consumer Finances from the Federal Reserve, the median net worth for an American family is $97,300. . The median net worth means the one where half of Americans are above and...

Bernie is too communist to be the nominee

Posted by John T. Reed on

Bernie is campaigning hard in MI. Does that matter? Or is the result pre-ordained by Bernie’s big picture image as a socialist revolutionary and not much of a black favorite and old Joe from Scranton, Penna.’s big picture image as a blue collar Knights of Columbus guy bringing pot luck potato salad to your block party..“C’mon, man” versus “Proletariat of the world, arise.”.Bernie is in the wrong continent in the wrong century.

John T. Reed’s review of The Cost of Loyalty by Tim Bakken

Posted by John T. Reed on

I got my copy of West Point whistleblower Tim Bakken’s book The Cost of Loyalty. He was a law professor at West Point for 20 years and because of his official whistleblower status is still a law professor there in spite of being in the doghouse with the brass..I just read the preface. He is an excellent writer and I agree with everything he said. I am very hard to please, but he managed not to gave me anything I could quibble with..Two of the things in the preface were facts that I cannot confirm or deny—a computer failure at...
