Photo of my author work desk

Posted by John T. Reed on

I was revising my book on How to Write, Publish, and Sell Your Own How-To Book and wanted to show readers my author work desk so I took a photo and put it on line so I could put the URL in the book.
.
The biggest is a 48" wide Samsung curved-screen, high-definition TV. It is connected to the 27" diagonal iMac on the right so that I can move things from one screen to the other and the cursor moves from one computer to the other.
.
The computer on the left is an ancient Apple Cinema screen. The smallest screen is my Mac Pro laptop. As with the Samsung and iMac, the laptop and Cinema monitors are linked together and the cursor on the laptop moves from the laptop to the Cinema.
.
When I work on a book, the text is on the Samsung where a lower case letter is the size of a quarter. Easier to spot typos. On the iMac then are the paragraph styles and other writing tools that are used to format the Samsung text.
.
The other two computers would generally be used for Internet research when I am writing. I can transfer stuff from one pair of computers to the other by copying it to the icloud to which both Macs both are connected.
.
This set up is not necessary for a new writer, but it is what you get when the author in question has sold millions of dollars worth of books and is reasonably well-informed about technology. Writing mainly happens in the author’s head. The computers just make me more efficient.
.
I am starting to experiment with dictating rather than typing. My hope is that it would be faster. One drawback of that is I have to keep saying things like “new line,” “apostrophe,” “question mark.” The keystrokes for those things are quicker.
